Music has been long celebrated for its visceral powers of expression. Its ability to evoke memory and consequence in a way that is immediate and unconscious has allowed song to develop as a mode of memoir. It is this revealing faculty that propels TheBlueScarf and sanctions the individualized chronicle of each song.
The blog was inspired by Nick Hornby’s “Songbook,” a collection of short essays that discusses, without pretense, and always unassumingly, the various aspects of pop music that bring it to life. In the span of twenty-six chapters, Hornby’s insight into thirty-one of his favorite songs unearths the colossal bearing music has on emotional recall and summons, unabashedly, the associations created from the songs he’s fallen for throughout the years.
TheBlueScarf is written and poorly edited by Neetu, a 22 year old medical student in Miami, Florida. She promises infrequent updates and inconsistent tense usage. She enjoys used books and spends most of her time inducing seizures in lab rats.
